The Texas Scottish Rite Hospital Literacy Program is an innovative instructional videotape series developed specifically for high school students and adults. The instruction is an outgrowth of the landmark Dyslexia Training Program and consists of:
- Five Orientation Tapes
- 160 one-hour instructional tapes
The Literacy Program was designed for:
- Students age 14 and older
- Students with an average or above average intelligence (an I.Q. of 90 or above)
- Adults who wish to improve their reading skills
This linguistic curriculum is systematic, sequential and cumulative, with each class including no more than 10 students. The videotape program must be facilitated by a team teacher. This individual may be either a certified teacher or a paraprofessional.
The multisensory lessons are designed to teach:
- Alphabet and dictionary skills
- Multisensory introduction of new learning
- Reading
- Handwriting
- Spelling
- Listening and reading comprehension
