Dyslexia Training Program Supplement

The Dyslexia Training Program Supplement is an exciting new software program that follows the renowned curriculum developed by the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRHC) Dyslexia Training Program and Video Tapes.

With the Dyslexia Training Program Supplement, students will reinforce their lessons using an exciting interactive computer software program. The interactive capabilities mean the student is continually involved in the program instead of just being a passive listener. Using the mouse, they can click buttons to journey through the program. Or, with the enhanced "touch screen" capabilities, they simply touch the monitor screen to respond to the program

Teachers can spend more time managing the classroom, while students still receive valuable one-on-one training. Due to the flexible nature of the interactive program, students can actually set their own learning pace

The Dyslexia Training Program Supplement is a Multisensory Microsoft Windows 3.1 Software Application that incorporates the methodology of the Alphabetic Phonics curriculum created by the Dyslexia Laboratory of the Child Development Division of the TSRHC. It is intended for use with the TSRHC Dyslexia Training program or any Orton-Gillingham based Alphabetic Phonics program.

The software program consists of the basic components in each of the three schedules:

  • 1 - Letter (and letter cluster) review
  • 2 - Key word and sound review
  • 3 - Spelling review
  1. Letter (and letter cluster) Review
The letters of the alphabet are presented on the computer screen in lower case type print to appear as a "reading letter" which is the same style used in the TSRHC video tapes. The names of the letters are reviewed so that each one will be identified immediately by name when presented. The letter clusters are presented at the appropriate time.

  2. Key Word and Sound Review
Presentation of the key words and sounds is designed to help the student immediately recall the sound associated with the graphic picture and the word. The graphics are done in a colorful and appealing mode that is current in concept.
The intent of this feature is to help students bridge the gap from the name of the letter to the appropriate sound.

  3. Spelling Review
The spelling review presents the most complex concepts for the student to master. The 44 phonemes (sounds) and the multiple spellings possible are given much attention. A video profile of the instructor's lower face appears on the screen as she is saying the sound, so the student may observe her mouth for positioning of lips, teeth, tongue and jaw as they hear each sound. The student responds by echoing the sound, then naming the letter or letters that spell that sound. The software provides a series of clues if the student has difficulty at any level of this spelling part of the program. These hints help the student recall the correct pictures from the reading deck that trigger the accurate response for the spelling check.

It is recommended that the student always begin the review with the letters and then proceed to key words and sounds. When this reading review is completed, the student can progress to the spelling portion of the program.

This program is specifically designed so that all concepts required of the student have been previously presented in the video tapes and reviewed in the supplementary software. This reduces frustration and stress during the review and practice sessions. All context sensitive help is an actual recorded human voice providing instructions that guide the student through the exercises and use of the program.
