Introducing another computer based tool to help children with dyslexia perform to their full potential.

The Keyboarding for Written Expression program is a natural extension of Texas Scottish Rite Hospital's successful two-year Dyslexia Training Program used in more than 200 Texas school districts, 13 other states and six foreign countries, and the newly released Dyslexia Training Program Supplement computer program.

Developed out of a need to help students put their written language skills to use and based on the original video tape version, the new Keyboarding for Written Expression computer program is an essential part of the third year of instruction in Texas Scottish Rite Hospital's Dyslexia Laboratory classrooms. This multisensory program focuses on keyboarding, touch typing and leads to word processing.

The Keyboarding for Written Expression program teaches the standard keyboard and develops touch typing skills. Twenty-six lessons instruct the student through an audio and visual representation of what they are learning. The lessons use proven techniques of multisensory, structured, sequential and repetitious lessons to instill basic skills.

After completing the program, typing skills may be improved through the use of a standard typing text or another good software program aimed at proficiency development.

Once a student has mastered the 26 lessons, word processing is a natural and beneficial outgrowth.

This program leads to keyboarding, typing and word processing, which are of benefit to all students - especially students with dyslexia.

The computer requirements for running the Keyboarding for Written Expression program are:

• 80386 or 80486 IBM or IBM Compatible Computer w/ at least 4MB Ram.
• Hard Disk Drive w/ at least 15MB available
• VGA or SVGA Monitor w/1MB video memory
• Windows® Compatible Sound Card with speakers
• Microsoft Windows® 3.1 or higher
• Works GREAT with Windows 95
• Mouse or other pointing device

The entire program should take less than 6 weeks to complete and each lesson, including warm-ups and review, lasts approximately 45 minutes.
