The Eyes Tell the Story!
So protect them! Players that participate in the sport of
racquetball should always wear eye protection.
The official A.A.R.A (American Amateur Racquetball
Association) rule states: Rule 2.5 APPAREL.
(a) Lensed Eyewear Required. Lensed eyewear designed for racquet
sports is required apparel for all players.
The protective eyewear must be worn as designed and may not be
altered. Players who require corrective
eyewear also must wear lensed eyewear designed for racquet sports.
Failure to wear protective eyewear
will result in a technical foul and the player will be charged
with a timeout to secure eyewear. The second
infraction in the same match will result in immediate forfeiture
of the match. The AARA recommends that
players select eyewear with polycarbonate plastic lenses with
3-mm center thickness. These rules apply to
tournament play, but should be enforced at all events and when
playing freindly games.
Not that your opponent is aiming for you, but usually it is a miss
hit ball that is to blame. An unexpected miss
hit off the frame of your opponents racquet could be the culprit.
A $30.00 investment on a pair of eye protectors
is a lot cheaper than a $3,000.00 investment to your local eye
doctor.
Like any sport there are hidden dangers, and like any sport, with
the right equipment and education, racquetball can be
fun and safe.
